Agency adds America, Little River Band to summer concert series
Friday, 26 February 2010
WATERTOWN – The Disabled Persons Action Organization will present America and Little River Band performing live in concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena as part of its 2010 Summer Concert Series.
Tickets for this classic rock show go on sale at 7 a.m. March 8. Reserved tickets are $40 and $34 each, and general admission tickets are $26.
The world discovered America in 1972 when a nameless horse began its gallop across the international airwaves. “A Horse With No Name” made America a global household name, paving the way for a string of hits following in its wake. Slightly more than a year after launching the group, Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek were bonafide superstars, thanks to a timeless sound that seamlessly assimilated strands of rock, pop and folk elements.
Their best-known tunes, which also include “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Don’t Cross The River,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People” and “Sister Golden Hair,” were cornerstones of 70s Top 40 and FM rock radio.
Little River Band was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1975. Fueled by a successful Australian hit single “Curiosity Killed The Cat,” the band began making promotional visits to the U.S. in 1976. This led to a U.S. hit single, “It’s A Long Way There,” which broke into the Top 30.
More performances in the U.S. followed, and in 1977, “Help Is On Its Way” (an Australian No. 1 single) and “Happy Anniversary” both narrowly missed the U.S. Top 10. In 1981, their single “Night Owls” debutted in the U.S. Top 10. Other hits included “The Other Guy,” “We Two” and “You’re Driving Me Out Of My Mind.”
